A glance at my lived experience, reveals the many reasons and pathways I took to become your therapist. From teaching literacy to those in need to engaging in combat. My counseling acumen goes back to taking care of fellow soldiers and their families in the most trying of times, giving comfort to patients with terminal AIDS and diseases in public health and helping families facing the ravages of addiction. Several years at Pfizer Pharmaceuticals gave me a solid understanding of Psychiatric medications and the challenges of Mental Health. My training and double license in Mental Health and Family Therapy is the culmination of my journey. My philosophy of therapy is guided by Family Systems Theory, Positive Psychology, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Trauma-Informed Therapy. These orientations come together to recognize that we all possess an internal sense of order and well-being, which we reclaim in times of hardship, so we can experience growth and meaning.
Some of the populations I have worked with include individuals, couples, adolescents, families, and first res-ponders with various needs. I am fluent in both English and Spanish. Some of the intervention tools I utilize in the course of treatment include Polyvagal Theory, Safe and Sound Protocol, Breath Body and Mind, and Motivational Interviewing. Other modalities for trauma are EMDR and Hypnosis.
